(Dan Tri) – The Russian military used the UR-77 mine clearing complex to attack targets of Ukrainian forces amid the escalation of hostilities.

According to military news site Avia Pro, during the process of clearing mines in territory controlled by the Ukrainian army, Russia discovered a base that posed a threat to the security of Russian forces.

The UR-77 complex uses data received from unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to determine the exact coordinates of the target.

According to military experts, the deployment of the UR-77 has shown effectiveness in the fight against anti-tank mines that can threaten the lives of soldiers.

The Russian army has put into use UR-77 mine clearing complexes to attack Ukraine’s defense lines at the fronts, especially in the eastern Donbass region.

Manufactured since 1977 under the Soviet Union, the UR-77 is one of the most powerful mine clearing complexes in the Russian military.

Thanks to its outstanding features and power, the UR-77 was nicknamed `Fire-breathing Dragon` by observers.

Mounted on the base chassis of the 2S1 Gvozdika self-propelled gun, the UR-77 is equipped with a YaMZ-238N engine with a capacity of 300 horsepower allowing it to move at a maximum speed of 60km/h over a range of up to 500km.

However, according to some experts, the UR-77 still has some weaknesses, especially the effective range of just over 90m.
