Ukraine warns of the risk of a `second Bakhmut` appearing

(Dan Tri) – The Russian army is trying to isolate Avdiivka, a city located north of Donetsk, and it may soon become `a second Bakhmut`, the Ukrainian army said.

`The Russian army is trying to surround the city of Avdiivka. I agree with the assessment of my colleagues in the UK that Avdiivka may soon become the second Bakhmut,` said Oleksiy Dmytrashkivskyi, Ukrainian military spokesman.

However, he also added that Russia is suffering quite serious losses and stated that they are having to use their last weapons reserves.

On March 20, the British Ministry of Defense said that the Russian campaign around Avdiivka near the city of Donetsk used tactics similar to what is happening in Bakhmut, and has achieved significant progress.

In particular, according to intelligence data, the Ukrainian army continues to defend itself in an organized manner, but its supply lines to the west are under increasing threat due to Russian encirclement operations.

According to Ukrainian officials, there are about 2,000 civilians remaining in Avdiivka.

Regarding the Bakhmut situation, the head of Wagner – a paramilitary force participating in Russia’s military campaign in Ukraine – said they controlled about 70% of this city.

He predicted that Ukraine may be preparing for a major counterattack plan.

Leader Wagner urged Minister Shoigu to take necessary measures to prevent the risk of Wagner being separated from the Russian army, because when the two forces are isolated, it will `bring negative consequences for the Russian army.`

Bakhmut is currently the fiercest front in Ukraine.
