(Dan Tri) – German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius warned that NATO members in Europe could be in big trouble if they continue to support Ukraine in the conflict with Russia after the 2024 US election.

In an interview with Welt am Sonntag newspaper published on April 1, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius predicted that US aid to Ukraine would likely be cut regardless of the outcome of the US presidential election.
Mr. Pistorius believes that the US will have to pay more attention to the Indo-Pacific region after 2024, even if a `pro-European` president wins the election next year.
`If the worst scenario happens and an American president, who is estranged from Europe and NATO, moves into the White House, we will face unimaginable challenges,` Mr. Pistorius said.
According to the German Defense Minister, if the above scenario occurs, Europe will have to `compensate` for the decrease in America’s commitment to protecting NATO.
Minister Pistorius admitted that the supply and funding problems that the German army has faced over the years are unlikely to be resolved before 2030. He also said that the German army’s stockpiles are limited.
Minister Pistorius did not specify who would win the US presidential election in 2024, which he called the `worst case`.
In March, former President Trump said that if he was re-elected, Kiev would likely receive less aid from the US.
In late March, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he was concerned about the possibility of US support fading.
Since the Russia-Ukraine conflict broke out in February 2022, the West has poured significant military aid to the Kiev government.
Russia has repeatedly criticized the US and its allies transferring weapons to Ukraine, arguing that these moves only escalate and prolong the war.
